- Windows XP/OS of your choice ISO image.
Start of by downloading the VirtualBox installation. You can download it from the official site. Once installed, run VirtualBox and you'll be presented with the screen above.
Click on new and you'll be shown the screen below.
Now, choose your OS type and version. For the sake of this tutorial we will be setting up Windows XP but this can be done with any OS/Type. In the third screen shot, you need to assign a certain amount of RAM. I recommend about 512 for optimal performance.
Since we don't have any previous VDi hard drives we can just create a new one.
Now whether you chose dynamically expanding storage or fixed is totally up to you. If you choose expanding, the more you download on to your VM the more space it will take up on your HD. If you choose fixed then it's assigned a value and cannot be changed.

That's the main setup done (Y) Click start and your VM box will load up.
This is the important part. If you burned your ISO onto a disc then choose your actual computers disc drive letter. This will use the Windows XP CD/your current drive to install from. If you didn't burn, just choose the image file button and navigate and find your ISO. Follow the onscreen instructions and installation will begin.

After Windows XP has been setup, you'll be left with something like the above.
Now no need for you to worry your Computer being Infected.
